50 km challenge

I went up north to work and brought my cross-country skis with me. I was told that I could do laps around the golf course. With my new Garmin Fenix 5X watch, I was able to get a reliable course lap of 3.5 km.

With this new technology there where several important information that was collected that I found interesting.

*The first set of information was the total distance, hence that is how I got the lap distance.

*Second piece of information that the watch gave was my average speed during the duration of my cross-country skiing.

*The third piece of information that I found useful was the number of calories I burnt during the time I was cross-country skiing.

*Fourthly, the total time of skiing.

*And finally, the five piece of information that I like was my heart rate.

A short description of the golf course: It is relatively flat with an elevation of 35 meters, nine holes and at this time of the year is covered with snow. The golf course had their personnel grade the trial. The first hole is long and down hill. Crossing a bridge to get to the second and third holes, which where long and down hill but the elevation wasn’t as significant as the first hole. The forth hole was short and flat, while the fifth was still flat but a bit longer. The sixth hole was long and had a little bit of a climb for the first half, a small decant for the second half. The seventh hole was skipped by cutting through the trees and heading up the eighth hole on the north side. This is where most of the elevation was gained back. It was by far the steepest part of the whole course. Also, being shaded by the trees, the trial got icy on the inclined. Going to hole nine, meant going down a small slope on the south side of hole number eight and crossing another bridge. Once on the ninth hole it was a small incline back to the starting point.

On my first day of skiing I did two laps and almost died. This is where I thought I should do a 100 km challenge until I realize that I need to do a total of 29 laps and plus working 12 hours night shift, this was not going to happen. On the second day I did four laps and changed my challenge to 50 km to make it a more achievable goal. The third and forth day of skiing also saw me do four laps while and the 5 day was only three laps as I was under a time restraint. Below are my stats on all the skiing days and rest days I took.

I think I could do a 100 km challenge if I wasn’t working, as I was only getting five hours of sleep per day of skiing. Also, the temperature was fluctuating and I did not bring any wax up for my skis. On day four, it snowed and was -25°C.

In conclusion, I am impressed that I did 59.5 km in 8 hours and 43 minutes. And it was FUN.

Cheers
